Fathers are the giants of our lives,
Atlases who once held up our worlds.
They do not shrink as we increase in size,
However handsomely our lives unfurl.
Even when we know them for themselves,
Reducing them to their humanity,
'Mid myth and memory we are still elves,
Still small beside the giants we still see.
Do, then, both enjoy your coming state
And know you will reprise your father's fate,
Yearning for the giant you will be.
