Holidays Are Algorithms
Holidays are algorithms
for
Apportioning the time one spends on
love,
Pressing into certain days far more
Pure
grit than simple parity might prove.
Yet as you make or buy
the gifts and cards,
Host the gatherings or travel
to
Old haunts, where each frail memory sends
regards,
Love finds its weight in what you say and
do.
Inequalities are natural,
Dividing glory
into more and less;
As love is constant, yet some days
fulfill
Yearnings that on other days lie
still,
Sated by the holiday's
caress.
