Sixty-nine is shy of truly old,
In spirit still unchanged from middle age.
Xylophones tingle in the background,
Tied to memories by silken chords.
Yet life still opens, fold on endless fold.

Now there are new figures in the foregound,
In whom one vests what wealth one can afford.
Nor does one turn from tales already told,
Even as one turns, one turns the page.
