Happiness deserves some celebration
As we look back on thirty happy years,
Pleased to celebrate both joys and tears,
Pleased to share the gift of our relation.
Yet happiness devours expectation,
Taking in resentments, heartaches, fears,
Hungers, dreams abandoned, in arrears,
Ill-tempers, flareups, reconciliation.
Rest easy in the arms of happiness,
The place where being part is being whole,
In which the choice to love brings one back home.
Enjoy this moment as we pause to bless
The quiet music of the lonely soul,
Heard by such sweet fortune long ago.
