Perhaps there is some better way than voting.
Remember the divine right of kings?
Emperors, dictators, one-party elections,
States that refuse to wither away? Oh, yes,
In democracies money talks. But so do people.
Despite the injustice, the inequality,
Even the chaos, corruption, greed, and crime,
No better way exists to apportion power
Than to give each citizen a say.
Sing, then, of voting, that forces us to be
Dependent on persuasion, compromise,
Alliances with those like us and unlike,
Yielding power to the more than few.
